My name is Jason A. Howie and I once used Wolfram Alpha to determine that statistically I am the only person in the world that could have my full name. Actually it is even unlikely for me to have my name; the chance of someone being name Jason Andrew Howie is less than a quarter of a percent.
Why am I starting with this for my about me section? Because undoubtedly the first thing anyone notices about me is that I am good with numbers and information. But that’s not the whole picture, I’m also good with a camera, web design, and thinking creatively. I like to think I appreciate aesthetics of a room just as much as I do the function, which is something I try to bring to the websites and accounts I design or consult on.
Raised by two computer programmers, computers, the internet, and electronics have been ingrained in me since a young age. At 8 my first computer was an IBM with an 8086 processor, at 15 my first website was on GEOcities, and through high school I frequented computer fairs at the Hartford Convention Center to collect parts for my custom computers. In college while studying for my Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, I developed a love for working with WordPress, Google’s web tools, and helping people customize their Social Media accounts. I also have installed every edition of Ubuntu since 5.04.
To pay for college I started a job at RadioShack and quickly became known as an expert in not just my store but within the district for any number of questions that might come up from customers. My time at RadioShack while I had originally intended it to be something that got me through college morphed and grew into me being the Store Manager of Bridgewater Mall, in New Jersey. My knowledge and passions helped me succeed there not only with answering customer’s questions, but also with my fellow Managers and even District Managers on operations and branding initiatives.
Through all of this sales and analytical work, I nurtured a love for the creative and design. I have regularly written short stories and poetry since 1998 and have taken pictures that are on websites around the world shared and attributed through Creative Commons licensing (WorldCrunch, MagforWomen, and NJ101.5). Ever since I created my brother’s portfolio site in 2006, I have created and consulted friends, family, colleagues, and clients on their sites and social media accounts. Originally as hobby it didn’t take long for me to realize that this is something I should be doing for hire and ever since I have the fortunate opportunity to work with a wide range of companies and individuals.
On May 10th, 2012 I completed the capstone to my education with a Master’s degree in Business Administration specializing in Marketing from Rowan University’s Rohrer College of Business. I attained honors, was an active member of the Rowan chapter of the AMA, and became the Graduate Assistant to the John B. Campbell Professorial Chair. As a Graduate Assistant I helped complete the writing and research on topics in the field of corporate sustainability efforts and their effect on firm’s financial performance.
With my MBA in Marketing and experience working with technology and websites I have started a career in Social Media marketing focusing on mobile platforms. On this site you will be able to see both my creative and analytical work as I examine and help people use the latest in social media and mobile technology.
